I'm thinking of converting to Wordpress

I haven't posted in over a year. I finally have the brilliant idea of searching for a blogger app. Of course there's an app for that. But guess what? It sucks. First time I used it, I thought I deleted a post. Nice.

ABCs and Garden Peas...my latest Internet blogger girl crush

She probably doesn't know it, but I really enjoy the blog ABCs and Garden Peas. She has similar interests as me regarding our babies (breastfeeding, babywearing, and cloth diapering to name a few), but one of the things I love is her posts about food.

I am no cook by any stretch of the imagination - I like to bake. My husband does the cooking and is fabulous at it, so why ruin a good thing? ;) But Wendy makes me wish I could cook. I love autumn and all her recipes about vegetables - vegetables! - sound delicious. (I'm no vegetarian either! I work to give my kid vegetables because it's not something I'm good at eating myself!)

I think I will just continue to admire, though, because I've tried 'cooking' and...well...I'll stick to baking.

RT @astartesstudent #whattheheckamIdoing huh?

I started a Twitter account last year and didn't do much with it because I didn't "get" it. Well - I got it - I just didn't have any interest.

Recently, however, I decided I wanted to start following Conan O'Brien's "tweets". I've discovered that my favorite tweets are from comedians. Twitter is the perfect outlet for those one-liners.

Still not sure I like it - the lingo and constant retweets can get old. I've had follow requests that I apparently FAILed because I see they are not listed as followers. Ah well. I guess I won't be King of Twitter.

Man Guesses Exact Showcase Amount on The Price is Right

So I was watching The Price is Right this morning and saw the unexpected. The man guessed the exact amount of the showcase - $23,743. As a former math geek (I say former because I've forgotten most of the good stuff), I'd love to know what the odds are for someone to guess an unusual number like that and be right. In other words, I'm waiting to find out that he cheated in some way.

Then again, I haven't watched The Price is Right in a while, and yet I happen to watch the day that this occurs. But still....

I've seen a few places around the 'net talking about this, including this blog entry from Best Week Ever (with video).

What do you think?

Pre-Order a Book and Get a Chance to Win

One of my favorite bloggers, The Well-Heeled Society, has written a book called How to Stylishly Fall From Grace that looks interesting. If it's as well written and well thought out as her blog, I think it will be a fantastic read.

From her blog:

The book's main character Zoe is a fashion-forward, independent gal with a penchant for Broadway plays. It's at one of her Broadway play excursions that she meets a charming guy. Bald and child-free makes him an instant candidate for Zoe, and a year-long, long-distance relationship blossoms. He woos her with weekend “play dates” and whirlwind reservations for two, which eventually sweeps Zoe her off her feet. Or so she thinks, until she relocates her life, wardrobe and shoes to New York City to live with him...

For more information and how to pre-order, visit her post here.

As an added benefit, if you pre-order, you'll receive a signed copy AND be entered to win this awesome package, including a Marshall's gift card, some lovely body treatments, cute high heel cookies :D, and a bracelet supporting Domestic Violence Awareness. Good luck!!

French Dressing, Where Art Thou?

What's the deal with French dressing? I had no idea it was such a commodity. We had to visit 2 stores over the weekend to get some because the first store didn't even carry it. The second store had ONE brand of it, if I remember correctly, and I think it was even more expensive than the other flavors. When did French dressing go out of style?

After thinking about it, I realized that you don't always hear it as an option at restaurants either. If it's the French thing, we can just be really cool and defiant and call it Freedom dressing. Because that makes the kind of statement that will be taken seriously. It can't be the flavor because it always seems to be the chosen dressing if we offer options when having people over for dinner.

So what happened, French dressing? What did you do that was so wrong?

Favorite Day of the Week Poll

I need to start keeping track of these little polls I do because now I'm wondering if I already did this one. :/

I've always liked Thursdays because I like the anticipation of the weekend! :D The fact that Lost is on Thursdays only makes me like it more. ;)

Happy Easter!

I don't like to cook but I love to bake and make desserts. I was dying to make this easy little cake because I remember being excited about the bunny cake my grandmother always made for Easter. It's a tradition worth carrying on! My grandmother was happy with it. :) She said she always enjoyed making it for Easter, and I did too.

Happy Easter and Happy Spring!

Meh and Yay

Meh: I got a sudden cold/sore throat thing yesterday that kept me home today and BETTER BE GONE TOMORROW. I used spearmint and eucalyptus shampoo and conditioner and lavender body wash to perk up my senses and clear my head a bit. I have discovered that hot water (with varying strengths of tea) is sweet nectar from the gods for me and will probably my exclusive sore throat treatment from this day forward. I've never been a fan of the menthol stuff that's cold and freezes your throat - even drinking cold or room temperature water is unappealing to me. I choke orange juice down. But warm water...oh man does that go down smooth. What do you use to feel better?

Yay: I watched the Charlie Brown Easter special! Yes, I am cheesy like that. But whatever happened to the rest of the holiday specials?? I have Halloween and Easter specials from Looney Toons, Garfield, and Charlie Brown on VHS that we recorded off the TV when we were kids, but I don't even have a VCR anymore! Put those bad boys back on TV! Does anyone remember that jingle that the broadcast channels would play when a "Special" (cartoon) was on in the evening? They don't have that anymore either. How sad. What is the world coming to?

7 Things You Love About Me (Tagged again!)

I've been tagged by my good friend Kate to do the ol' 7 things meme. This will take some thought....

THE RULES:

  • List 7 random things about yourself that people may not know.

  • Link the person who sent this to you, and leave a comment on their blog so that their readers can visit yours.

  • Post the rules on your blog.

  • Tag 7 random people at the end of your post, linking their blog. Let each person know that they have been tagged by leaving a comment on their blog.

All About Me:

1. I've taken (and loved) ballroom dancing lessons.

2. I started wearing glasses when I was 8.

3. I have girl crushes on Ashley Judd and Angelina Jolie.

4. I have an irrational fear of throwing up.

5. I've never broken a bone.

6. Growing up, I wanted to be a herpetologist, anthropologist, and artist.

7. I'm lazy about getting rid of things (e.g. I still have VHS tapes even though we haven't had a VCR in AGES).

I don't know who has done this before, so I'm sorry if I tag you again! But I'd love to see responses from My Inner French Girl, Raging Rouge, NY $pender, Wardrobe Oxygen, The Well-Heeled Society, Fabulously Broke in the City, and shopalicious!

My First Meme

I've been tagged! My Inner French Girl tagged me to do this meme, which is so exciting to me because I feel a little more 'in' with the blogging world now. ;)

The rules for this one are:

a) Pick up the nearest book of 123 pages or more.

b) Find page 123.

c) Find the first 5 sentences and read them.

d) Post the next 3 sentences.

The nearest book I grabbed is Gordon Ramsay's Roasting In Hell's Kitchen: Temper Tantrums, F Words, and the Pursuit of Perfection. The hubby borrowed it from the library and thought it was great, so now it's waiting for me to read it quickly before we return it.

Page 123 is towards the end of Chapter 5, Oceans Apart. Here we go....

We were moving in because there was a big storm, but the tenders were still out. The Grundys were up on deck playing cards, and I was fishing off the prow, something they encouraged if we were off duty. Suddenly, I heard this terrific bang.

To be honest, I don't know what he's talking about! The section sounds more like a mystery novel than a biography about a chef. It's interesting though - I certainly wouldn't have expected a boating trip to be in his book. I had to keep reading to find out what the bang was, but I'll keep that little secret to myself. ;)

I shall now tag NY $pender, The Well-Heeled Society, and Wardrobe Oxygen.

Happy Valentine's Day!

We've all heard the usual story about Valentine sending a letter to the girl he loved while he was in jail and signing it "from your Valentine." History.com has an article about the history of Valentine's Day. I found the theory about the day being in the middle of February to sort "convert" a Pagan holiday into a Christian holiday to be interesting - it's certainly not the first time that is thought to happen. The festival, Lupercalia, started on Feburary 15, and it was considered the beginning of Spring, a time for cleansing, and a fertility festival dedicated to the god of agriculture. Old habits die hard I guess because that all sounds familiar to what the current season means to many of us - spring cleaning and preparation for the growing season.

Have a nice Valentine's Day, whether it's spent with someone else or a day of some much deserved self-pampering!

100 visits!

Yay! I hit 100 visits! :)

Thanks for reading my blog - I hope you all enjoy it! :)
